Arrows setting bar high

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s golf team is returning four letter-winners and seventh year coach Roy Lucas is hoping that can translate into challenging for a league title.

“Our expectations, just like every year is to take league. But the main things is to just compete. I want the boys to learn the game, have fun, and make sure they turn out to be better golfers in the future,” Lucas said.

The team is comprised of three seniors, a sophomore and three freshmen.

“The outlook for the team is positive. So as we grow, the team is going to be better. It’s going to be an interesting year. I think they are going to compete for league, they just have to work at their game just like everybody else,” Lucas said.

Michael Fritts, Jordan Dobbins and Craig Doty are the three seniors. Luke Woodard is the lone sophomore. The freshmen are comprised of Levi Brock, Ethan Talbot and Gage Miller.

Fritts, Dobbins, Doty and Woodard are all returning letter-winners.

“I think with the mixture that I have the outcome is going to be good. I think challenging for the league is realistic we just have to build up to it,” Lucas said.

Lucas said he feels the program is on an upswing.

“It’s taken a turn for the better,” he said. “They’re a good group of kids. They listen and I expect big things out of them.”

The Arrows are scheduled to play at Brookville on Wednesday, Aug. 16 and at Milton-Union on Thursday.
