Trail drops pair, falls to 0-6

NEW PARIS —National Trail’s volleyball team is still seeking its first win of the season after dropping a pair of matches last week.

Tri-village defeated the Blazers in straight sets on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 25-9, 25-21, 25-18.

Leading the offense for NT was Junior Lexi Stiner with four kills and an ace. Freshman Angel Bowers had three kills and her sister, freshman Tristan Bowers, had three kills, an ace and two assists. Sophomore Brooke Johnson had 12 assists, two aces and a kill.

On Thursday, Aug. 31, National Trail’s home opener was spoiled by Newton in four sets.

After winning the first set, 25-21, the Blazers dropped the next three sets, 25-20, 25-16, 25-19.

Leading a balanced Blazer offense were sophomore Kate Deardorff with four kills, senior Lauren Moore, junior Lexi Stiner, freshmen Tristan and Angel Bowers all with three kills each.

Johnson had eight assists and senior Ariel Lee and Tristan Bowers both had two aces apiece.

“Our back row play was great, junior Risa Griffin and libero Ariel Lee were stellar,” Trail coach Joy Yeazel said. “We are still learning each others strengths and learning to trust each other. I am really proud of the way these girls played in the first set, we just have to continue that momentum.”

Trail was scheduled to play a pair of matches at Carlisle on Saturday, Sept. 2. The Blazers were scheduled to visit Mississinawa Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and host Franklin-Monroe on Thursday. They will close out the week hosting Milton-Union on Saturday.
