Arrows aiming for another league title

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s boys’ basketball team returns seven players from a team that shared a league championship last year.

“We graduated a good group of seniors last year and that leadership is tough to replace, but we have a lot of key players back,” Preble Shawnee Coach Dale Spitler Jr. said. “We return two all-league players in Joey Bates and Levi Lewis from last year’s league championship team. We have some things we are working on and we are excited to get started.”

The Arrows, 17-7 overall and 11-1 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division last season, will be led by Bates and Lewis as they seek a second straight league title.

Also returning are seniors Chase Thompson, Austin Moore, Tyler Worley and Andrew Monnin. Sophomore Sam Agee also returns from last year’s squad.

Thompson and Moore were starters last year.

New to the team this year are senior Bo Higgins and juniors Calvin Leeth and Jedd Geisen.

“Bo and Calvin look provide some depth at the guard positions and Jedd brings some size as a shot blocker,” Spitler Jr. said.

Spitler believes his team can contend for a league title again.

“We have a chance to be very competitive again if we can stay healthy and do the things we need to do. The league looks like it will be up some so there will be some games that we will have to play well in to win,” he said.

The Arrows are scheduled to open the season against Eaton on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at home. They will travel to Milton-Union on Friday, Dec. 8 and will host National Trail on Dec. 9.

Preble Shawnee’s Chase Thompson is expected to play a key role for the Arrows as they seek a second straight league title.
