Eagles 3rd at Annie Oakley Shootout

GREENVILLE — Eaton’s girls’ basketball team opened the season with a third place finish at the Annie Oakley Shootout this past weekend.

The Eagles let a 10-point lead slip away in their first round game and suffered a 49-43 loss to Bradford on Friday, Nov. 24, but bounced back with a 64-47 win over Graham on Saturday.

Against Graham, sophomore Bailey Shepherd scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and had six steals.

Junior Annika Gels scored 11 points and had four rebounds.

Senior Bailee Worley added seven points, nine assists and five steals.

Freshman Kylee Pitsinger added six points. Junior Becca Mowen contributed five rebounds as did sophomore Ashley Earley.

Eaton jumped out to a 7-2 lead early and led 17-15 after the first quarter. The Eagles extended their lead to 33-23 at halftime.

With its pressure defense, Eaton extended its lead to 25 by the end of the third quarter, 56-31.

Against Bradford, Eaton raced out to an 18-8 lead late in the first quarter, only to see the Railroaders to close the gap to 25-23 by halftime.

Bradford took its first lead of the game, 36-34, with just over a minute left in the third quarter.

The game was tied twice in the fourth, the last at 42-all with 2:47 to play.

Worley and Shepherd led the Eagles in scoring with eight each. Worley also had six assists and five rebounds. Shepherd added six rebounds. Gels added seven and Mowen and Alexis Miller each chipped in six. Miller also pulled down six rebounds.

Eaton (1-1) will host Bellbrook on Thursday, Nov. 30 and will travel to Monroe on Saturday, Dec. 2.
