Arrows control own destiny in SWBL title hunt

CAMDEN — The Preble Shawnee girls’ soccer team picked up an important league victory at Carlisle on Thursday, Sept. 24, defeating the host team, 3-0.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Arrows hosted out-of-conference foe Newton, who defeated the team 2-1. Head coach Kevin Schaeffer was less-than-pleased with his team’s effort.

“In the history of the program and considering the talent level, tonight was the worst 80 minutes of soccer a Shawnee team has played in my tenure as coach,” Schaeffer said. “Blame me. Period.”

Schaeffer said despite the poor effort, one positive was it came during an out-of-conference game. The team continues to challenge for an SWBL Buckeye title.

According to Schaeffer, the team got some help from Waynesville who was able to hand Milton-Union its first loss of the season.

Currently the Arrows sit in third place with four wins, a loss and a tie in league play — the same record as Milton-Union. However, both teams are now chasing Waynesville who has yet to lose a conference game and currently has four league wins and a draw.

With five games remaining on the schedule, the team will play its two biggest matches of the season in upcoming weeks.

The Arrows were scheduled to host Dixie on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Shawnee controls its own destiny in league play as the team travels to Waynesville on Thursday, Oct. 1, and Milton-Union on Thursday, Oct. 15.
