NEW PARIS —The National Trail volleyball team split a pair of matches last week as it faced two teams experiencing very different seasons.

On Monday, Sept. 28, the Blazers took on the Polar Bears of Northridge (1-14) and won in three straight sets.

The first set was 25-6, the second set was 25-5, and the third set was 25-17 as the Blazers picked up a non-conference win.

Head coach Joy Yeazel said the game was “service game” as her team was strong serving the ball all night against the out-of-conference foe.

Alexis Niswonger had eight aces and 24 points from serves. Shania Jordan had eight kills and Alexus Acton had nine kills.

Kourtney Rae also helped lead the serving by having seven aces on the match. She also had 11 assists.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, the team traveled to Casstown and took on Miami East, who is the current leader in the Cross County Conference.

The team features a sophomore who is verbally committed to Ohio State according to National Trail head coach Joy Yeazel.

Miami East showed its power by defeating the Blazers 14-25, 9-25, and 4-25. Yeazel said despite the lopsided scoreboard, she felt her team outperformed the scoreboard but was simply over-matched by a talented Viking squad.

Risa Griffin had 17 good serve receptions and 11 digs while Acton had 13 good serve receptions and six digs.

The team takes on Covington on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and travels to Bethel on Thursday, Oct. 8.
