Trail soccer supports Stivers player

NEW PARIS — National Trail girls soccer closed out the regular season with two losses, first 3-1 to Stivers on Monday, Oct. 12, and then 5-0 to Newton on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The game against Stivers was an emotional event though, with the outcome being more of an afterthought.

One of Stivers’ athletes is currently battling stage four stomach cancer and the Blazers decided to stand in support of their opponent. The girls took up a collection of their own and donated the proceeds to the player. They also wore golden leg bands for support.

“I could not be more proud of their display of sportsmanship and support,” said Trail head coach Lisa McCloskey.

Trail’s lone goal on the day game from Bri Dillow, who found the back on a breakaway goal.

The Blazers were scheduled to host Cincinnati Christian on Monday, Oct. 19. The winner will play Waynesville on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
