TIPP CITY – Just two days after posting its biggest win of the season, Twin Valley South’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the Division IV sectional tournament.

The No. 15 seed Panthers swept fifth-seeded Franklin-Monroe (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) Monday, Oct. 19, to avenge an earlier loss to the Jets.

On Wednesday, No. 8 Riverside, behind the play of sophomore Marissa Davis, put an end to South’s season with a straight set win, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18.

“They were a very nice team defensively. They took us out of our game by the simple fact that they could keep the ball alive and then they just kept feeding 27 (Marissa Davis) and she just kept having her night with us,” Twin Valley South coach Leslie Roberts said. “We couldn’t stop her.”

Davis, a 5 foot, 10 inch outside hitter collected 20 kills on the night, seven more than the entire South team had for the match.

“When 27 wasn’t in the front row, she was jump serving in the back row. I attribute their success to number 27,” Roberts said. “She’s very smart and heady player for a sophomore.”

Junior Abby Beneke finished with six kills to lead South.

In the upset win of F-M, Beneke lead the way with 16 kills, two blocks and eight assists. Sophomore Mylan Crews has 21 assists and seven kills. Junior Emma Fergus added six kills and sophomore Audrey Chesney chipped in with five kills and a pair of blocks.

South, which finished its season with a 14-10, will return its entire roster next year.

“We’ve got some things to work on for next year. We’ve got a young team coming back, no seniors this year,” Roberts said. We’re looking for improvements all around. There are five juniors. There’s a good core coming back.”

“It’s been a pretty decent overall season. You win the ones you should. You’re pretty happy if you steal one from somebody that you shouldn’t actually win. We probably stole one from Franklin-Monroe. That is the highlight of our season,” Roberts said. “Overall, we’re happy with the progress that we made. We’re above .500. The girls worked hard. “
