Eaton wins annual invite

EATON — For a second year in a row, Eaton won the Eaton Invitational, now officially known as the Sam Ridder Invite.

The Eagles placed 10 wrestlers in the top six during the two-day tournament that took place on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30.

“The team put forth a great team effort in winning the Eaton Sam Ridder Invite,” said head coach Mark Silvers. “They work hard at practice and support each other very well. I’m very excited for the regional duals and the SWBL this coming weekend. There are going to be some great matches.”

Eaton won the event by scoring 186.5 overall points. Interestingly, Ross – a potential match-up for the state duals on Wednesday, Feb. 3 – placed second at the tournament, scoring 174 total points.

Drew Moore (160) was the sole first place finisher for Eaton but Wade Monebrake (106) and Matt Todd (220) both finished second.

Coleman Manning (126) and Parker Wilken (170) both put in third place finishes while Isaac Ilo (152) ended the day in fourth.

Coming in fifth were Cameron Schmidt (120), Brandon Weaver (132), Spencer Reynolds (182) and Kevin Melling (195).

Eaton will wrestle three-seeded Madison on Wednesday, Feb. ,3 at Ross High School starting at 5 p.m. The winner of that match will go on to face the winner of Reading and Ross.
