GERMANTOWN — The Eaton boys’ basketball team certainly closed its season on an interesting note – falling by nearly 30 points to Valley View before taking the defending (and current) SWBL champs to overtime.
To start out the last week of the regular season, the Eagles made the trip to Valley View on Thursday, Feb. 11, where they struggled offensively and lost 67-39 on the day.
The Spartans posted 24 points in the first quarter against Eaton, taking a 24-13 lead into the second, where the Eagles only mustered four points. They headed into halftime down 40-17.
A similar pattern occurred in the second half, where Eaton posted 16 points in the third before only scoring six in the final frame.
Daniel Howard led the team with 10 points and five rebounds. Trey Smith added nine points while Lew Bowser scored five.
They then turned their efforts to Franklin, where the Eagles took a 30-29 lead into halftime. Franklin outscored them 19-14 in the third before Eaton buckled down and knotted the game at 58-58 after four quarters of play.
In the extra period, Franklin proved to be too much for Eaton, outscoring them 10-4 in the four-minute frame.
Eaton got big games out of Ronnie Lindsey and Trey Smith, who each put up 14 points. Smith also grabbed seven rebounds. Howard posted a double-double, adding 10 points and 10 rebounds while Jason Sneed also had 10 on the night.
The Eagles drew a first round bye but will play the winner of three-seeded Dunbar and 18-seeded Clinton Massie on Monday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. The game will take place at Trent Arena in Kettering.
