EATON — Multiple Eaton athletes placed in the Ohio State Division 2/3 Indoor Track & Field Championships held in January and February.

Alex McCarty

Senior Alex McCarty placed third overall in the Ohio State Division 2/3 Track & Field Championships in the men’s 1600-meter run with a time of 4:24.85, earning All-State honors.

He later placed third in the men’s 3200-meter run in a time of 9:44.20, earning a second All-State honor for the meet.

Eaton track and field head coach Randy McKinney said that McCarty ran solid races in an elite field of Division 2/3 competitors.

”Doubling up in the 1600 and 3200-meter run with the short recovery time in itself is very difficult, but to double up and place high in both races is almost impossible,” McKinney said. “Last year Alex qualified for the indoor championships in the men’s 1600-meter run and finished 12th place overall. What a difference one year can make on many different levels.”

Lauren Guiley

Freshman Lauren Guiley placed 9th overall in the Ohio State Division 2/3 Track & Field Championships in the women’s 800-meter run in a time of 2:22.16, just missing All-State honors.

“Lauren ran a very smart and gutsy race against a very competitive field of 800-meter runners. She was only one of two 9th grade athletes to qualify for the championship meet in the 800-meter run,” McKinney said. “What an outstanding accomplishment and invaluable experience for her…future as a high school athlete.”

Mallory Deaton

Junior Mallory Deaton placed 20th overall in the Ohio State Division 2/3 Track & Field Championships in the women’s weight throw with a distance of 35’3”.

“Mallory was ranked 24th going into the meet, but moved up for places in the final standings upon completion of the competition. Mallory just missed qualifying to the indoor championships last year, but did an excellent job training and competing during the winter to earn a trip the 2020 indoor championship meet,” McKinney said.

Deaton previously placed fifth in discus at the OHSAA Regional Track & Field Championships last spring, just missing a trip to the outdoor State Track & Field Championships.
