TROY — Tyler Gray, a Tri-County North junior in his first wrestling season, earned a trip to the district tournament at Hobart Arena in Troy on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27.

Gray wrestled the majority of the season at 182-pounds but entered the tournament at 195-pounds.

He went 1-2 on the weekend, falling 16-1 in the opening round before redeeming it with a 5-4 decision in the first round of the consolation bracket.

The victory sent him to second consolation, where he lost 18-3.

That loss ends his season and Gray was the only North wrestler to make it to the districts.

He earned his trip to the district tournament from a strong showing the week prior, where he took fourth in the Division III Sectional Tournament at Sidney Lehman Catholic High School on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20.

Gray ended up in the third place round at sectionals. He got there by pinning his first opponent in 1:09 before losing to a wrestler from Versailles in the semifinals. The loss sent him to the consolation bracket, where he pinned his opponent in the third period.

In the match-up for third place, he lost a closely contested contest 4-3, earning him a fourth place final.
