Blazers sweep Randolph Southern, 8-4

NEW PARIS — National Trail’s softball team closed out the week with a doubleheader sweep of Randolph Southern (Ind.) on Saturday, April 16.

Trail improved its record to 8-4 with the wins.

In game one, Elizabeth Glander pitched a shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight, in a 5-0 win.

Offensively, Ariel Lee went 2-for-4 with a double. Bobbi Grimes and Kayleigh Minner both went 2-for-3. Kylee Aldridge added a triple, while Payten Laird, Aleah Hunt and Gracie Jones each had a base hit.

Trail played errorless defense to get the second win against Randolph Southern, 13-0.

Glander and Laird teamed up on the mound for the shutout. Together the pitching duo allowed only four hits.

The Blazers were hot at the plate the second game. Alexus Acton went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Lee went 2-for-2 with a double. Hunt and Hannah Dixon both went 2-for-3. Aldridge added a triple, Kaitlyn Morgan added a double, and Jones had a base hit.

On Friday, the Blazers fell to Covington 13-4 to see its CCC record dip to 3-3.

Alexus Acton picked off three runners attempting to steal.

Offensively, Aldridge went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Lee went 3-for-4. Acton also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

On Thursday, Grimes’ RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Trail to an 8-7 win over Bethel.

Laird got the win, striking out seven and only walking two.

Acton led the team offensively, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kerestin Nugent went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Savanna Abner went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Aldridge added a triple and Dixon added a single.

Grimes finished with a double to drive in the two runs to win the game.

Trail opened the week with a 4-2 win over Ansonia on Tuesday.

Laird got the win, striking out six, walking six and allowing only two hits. Acton was in the middle of two pick-offs with Lee and Aldridge. Kim Dennull got the final out of the game with a diving catch.

Offensively, Nugent led the team, going 2-for-2 with a double. Aldridge went 2-for-4. Lee, Acton, Hunt, Grimes, and Laird all added base hits.

Trail was scheduled to host Dayton Christian on Monday, April 18 and Miami East on Tuesday. The Blazers will host Milton-Union on Thursday and close out the week by traveling to Preble Shawnee on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
