Trail, VV help raise awareness for Alopecia Foundation

GERMANTOWN — National Trail’s softball team traveled to Valley View on Saturday, May 7, to close out the regular season and help raise funds for the Alopecia Foundation to help find a cure.

The Blazers and Spartans split the two contests, with the hosts winning game one, 1-0, and Trail taking the second game, 12-3.

In the first game Trail had seven hits but couldn’t string them together to score.

Payten Laird pitched well enough to get the win, as she allowed just six hits and struck out five.

Offensively, Kerestin Nugent went 2-for-3. Savanna Abner, Aleah Hunt, Payten Laird, Bobbi Grimes, and Kylee Aldridge all added a hit.

In game two, pitcher Elizabeth Glander allowed 11 hits, but the Blazers’ offense woke up from its opening game slumber.

Kylee Aldridge and Laird both hit solo homeruns, with each collecting three RBIs. Savanna Abner went 2-for-2 with a double. Alexus Acton went 3-for-4 with a double. Kim Dennull added a single.

On Friday, Bobbi Jean Grimes hit a grandslam to rally the Blazers to a 6-5 win over visiting Milton-Union.

Laird was tough on the mound, only allowing three hits and striking out four..

Offensively, Grimes fueled the Blazers, going 2-for-3 with a double in addition to the grandslam, which came in the bottom of the inning with the Blazers trailing 4-2. Aldridge went 2-for-4. Laird, Glander, and Nugent all added base hits.

On Thursday, the Blazers picked up a conference win against Bradford on senior night with a walk off double by Kayleigh Minner.

Laird got the win, allowing six hits, two walks, and having five strikeouts.

Offensively, Ariel Lee went 2-for-4 with a double. Laird went 2-for-4 with a triple. Alexus Acton added a double and Kylee Aldridge racked up a triple. Grimes and Aleah Hunt added hits.

Trail closed out the regular season 16-8. They are scheduled to host Greenon in the first round of the sectional tournament on Tuesday, May 10. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, May 9, but was postponed due to poor weather conditions.
