NEW PARIS — On Wednesday, May 11, the National Trail softball team team had its season come to an early end, losing to Greenon in the opening round of the postseason sectional tournament, 6-0.

The Lady Blazers end with a 16-9 record, which happens to be the best performance in Blazer softball in two decades. The team finished 7-5 in the CCC.

Greenon controlled the game from the start, with excellent pitching which struck out 12 Blazer batters and allowed only one hit from Ariel Lee in the shutout.

“Greenon had timely hits in the game, said Trail Head Coach Krista Alldred. “Their pitcher had our number, we just couldn’t get past her. Greenon is a good team and their record doesn’t show how good they really are.”

“We have a great group of freshmen who will be coming back next year,” Alldred said. “Hunt and Acton were the team captains the past two years and they have really provided the leadership for the team. Kylie transferred here as a sophomore and had a high batting average. Ariel Lee did a good job at shortstop. Payton Laird and Elizabeth Blander were our pitchers and they did well this year.”

Seniors Lea Hunt (1B) and Alexis Acton (C) were the team captains on the season, played their final game in their Blazer careers. Kylie Aldridge broke the single season school record for triples with 12 on the year.

Acton and Aldridge were named All-CCC second team, while Payton Laird (P) earned CCC Special Mention. Laird will be a senior next year and Alldred is looking forward to her providing leadership.
