Stingrays’ summer swim season under way

EATON — The Eaton Stingrays swimming club has begun the 2016 season in earnest. The club is enjoying the new Eaton community pool which opened just recently.

“I think it’s great that we have this new pool,” said Coach David Montgomery. “We have about 115 kids out right now and my goal is still 170 and I’m not going to give up on that.”

The first event was an inter-squad meet on June 9. “This event will tell us where we stand with the kids in regards to times and endurance. We’re looking forward to it,” Montgomery said.

“We are short on older kids. Some of them didn’t come back this year. But the younger kids, the 11-12, 8-10 year-old kids, we have a bunch of them and that’s how you build up a program is with the younger kids. It’s not too late for kids to join in if they wish. We have a free week tryout just to see if kids will like it. They can come in at any time. You don’t have to be an excellent swimmer. If you want to just learn and have fun, we’ll have you aboard. I’m not looking for Olympians, just for kids who want to swim and have fun,” he said.
