ARCANUM — Preble Shawnee’s golf team took sixth place in its division and Eaton took fourth, in the Southwestern Buckeye League Championships at Beechwood Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 22.

In the Buckeye Division, Preble Shawnee came in sixth place in the 18-hole event with a team score of 423, ahead of Northridge but just behind Dixie who scored a 417.

Medalist and honorable mention Michael Fritts shot a 96, while Luke Woodard shot a 100, Craig Doty shot a 111, Jarod Barnes shot a 116, Jordan Dobbins shot a 123, and Dakota Keeler shot a 140.

Carlisle won the division race with a 352 on the day, followed by Milton-Union, who was behind only by a point for second place with a 353. A close third was Madison with a 355, while Waynesville carded a 400 on the day.

In the Southwestern Division, Eaton managed a respectable fourth place with a 338 in a very competitive field. Oakwood was the top team with a commanding 302 team score. Monroe finished in second with a 329, Bellbrook in front of Eaton with a 334.

Rounding out the bottom two spots were Valley View with a 367, and Franklin with a 382.

Eaton senior Trevor Pittman finished in a four-way tie for second with a 76 for Eaton, good enough to earn All-SWBL honors. Junior Sarah Willis took 13th place with an 82, while Sean Hodges was 20th with an 88.

“Trevor had the best day of his career,” said Eaton coach Randy Titkemeyer. “Kudos to him — I’m really proud of him. Sarah drove the ball well, but it’s golf and it’s sometimes hard to stay consistent. She shot a 74 and played well earlier in the week. I think she was in the tournament as the No. 1. She’s still one of the best around”

“Sean didn’t do bad at all,” Titkemeyer added. “Casey was a 92 which is solid for him. As a team, we shot decently. Sarah also earned All-CCC despite her drop in the tournament. Sean was Honorable Mention.”

Willis will golf at Stillwater on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Shawnee was scheduled to play on Tuesday, Sept. 27, against Valley View, a non-league make-up match at Liberty Country Club. Both Preble Shawnee and Eaton will play on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Dayton sectional tournament at Pipestone Golf Course in Dayton.
