NEW PARIS — The National Trail girls soccer team played its last home contest of the season Monday evening, Oct. 10, against the Stivers Lady Tigers. The match ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Lady Blazers were able to score in the first half off an assist by Ruth Wellman to Rachel Ray, who put the ball in the net. In the second half, the Tigers tied it up 1-1, but Kate Othersen provided Ray another assist and the Blazers took the lead 2-1.

The Lady Tigers answered with a goal of their own with under five minutes to play, and Trail could not beat the clock to score again.

Othersen had one shot on goal and one assist and Taylor Middleton had four shots on goal. Bri Dillow had three shots on goal, Wellman had two shots on goal and an assist, and Ray had eight shots on goal and two goals for the night.

Trail’s goalkeeper, Sophie McCloskey, had 15 saves in the match.

“The girls played hard and did well,” said Trail coach Lisa McCloskey. “We would have liked to have made one last goal, but we just ran out of time. Our defense, Erika Gallaher, Chloe Anderson, and Kelsey Patrum, did a great job defending against a very fast team, and our mid-field and forwards worked hard to keep the Tigers’ goalie on her toes. We’ll get back to work and iron out a few things and be ready to play on Thursday.”

The Lady Blazers are now 4-7-3 overall, and were scheduled to travel to Tri-County North for a conference match on Thursday, Oct 13, their final game of the regular season.

Trail will play in the Division III Dayton 3 sectional tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 18, against Northeastern.
