TVS soccer loses close one to Bethel

WEST ALEXANDRIA — The Twin Valley South team boys soccer team put up a tough fight in its final regular season match, but eventually lost 3-0 to Cross County Conference champion Bethel on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The teams went into halftime tied with no score, but Bethel was able to capitalize on a corner kick early in the second half for the first goal, and added two more goals to put the game out of reach for the home team.

“I was very happy with my team’s performance tonight,” said South’s coach Clay Young. “Anytime you go into halftime with the game tied you have a chance to win the game. I thought if we were to score a goal and take the lead it would come off a set piece, throw in, or corner kick. Their team’s speed just wore us down over the course of 80 minutes.”

Seniors Daniel Page, Jacob Jackson, Zach Guehring, and Jesse Woods were honored in the final regular season home game of their careers at Twin Valley South.

“We are still a young team, and we have to learn to transition out and start counter attacks better, moving into the tournament and next season,” said Young. “But this season has seen a lot of improvement, and I think our soccer program has a bright future.”

South finished the season with a 2-3-1 CCC record, good for fifth in the conference. The Panthers were scheduled to host Legacy Christian, at home, on Monday, Oct. 17, in the first round of the Division III, Dayton 1 sectional tournament. At 6-8-2, South was seeded 20th.
