ARCANUM — The National Trail volleyball team was eliminated from the Division III, Brookville 3 sectional volleyball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15, after losing to Milton-Union in three sets, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-17.

“Milton-Union came ready to play, they played smart volleyball and hustled to the ball on every play,” said Trail coach Joy Yeazel. “This season was disappointing in the win-loss column, but my hope is that the girls will continue to learn and play this awesome sport. We made a lot of strides and it was great to see the improvement in players.”

Sophomore Lexi Stiner had four kills and one ace, and sophomore Risa Griffin had two aces and 10 digs.

Next season, Trail will miss seniors Shania Jordan and Marissa Hawkins, who finalized their careers for the Lady Blazers.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, the Lady Blazers played their last regular season game, and lost in three sets to the Ansonia Lady Tigers, 20-25, 4-25, 19-25.

“We did a great job containing Lydia Sink, who is their best attacker,” Yeazel said. “The problem continues to be keeping our offense going. I am pleased with the way the girls played in sets one and three. Risa Griffin and Lexi Stiner played extremely well against a very good Ansonia team,” Yeazel said. Stiner had four solo blocks and seven kills, while Griffin had 14 digs. Jordan had eight assists.

The Lady Blazers finished the regular season with a 1-11 record in the Cross County Conference, placing 12th in the final standings. Their final record is 4-18 overall.
