NEW PARIS — National Trail picked up one win, and dropped two on the golf course last week, as the team moved to 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the Cross County Conference.

On Tuesday, Aug 25, the team picked up a conference victory when Mississinawa Valley came to National Trial. The Blazers defeated the Blackhawks by a score of 183 to 215. Bryten Jones led the Blazers by shooting a season-low 40, while Isaac Plankenhorn shot a 44 to help lead the Blazers to their third league victory of the season.

Head Coach Kurt Bachman believes the home advantage has been key for the Blazers in picking up wins.

“We are clearly much more comfortable on our home course as evidenced by the significantly improved scores at home events,” he said. We are aware that we need to be below 180 in team scoring to be competitive with the elite teams in our conference.”

On Monday, Aug 24, National Trail traveled to Beechwood Golf Course to take on the Tri Village Patriots in another Cross County Conference match-up.

The Patriots defeated the Blazers, 180 to 204. Bachman said his team continues to search for consistency on the course away from home.

“Putting continues to be an area that is diminishing our competitiveness due to our team’s inconsistency in this area,” Bachman said.

Jones led the Blazers by shooting a team-low 47 on the day.

The week concluded for the Blazers when they took on Twin Valley South at the Eaton County Club. The Panthers defeated the Blazers 183-196 in the conference match-up.

Bachman said his team struggled with a challenging course and continues to struggle on the greens despite having three golfers shoot in the forties. Logan Petitt shot a team-low 44, Plakenhorn and Jones shot 47 and 49 respectively.

“We have to be improving our scores in our away matches in order to be to be competitive with most of the teams in the CCC,” Bachman said.

He continued, “We are nearing the end of our season and need to establish more consistency so we can be competitive in our conference final and state matches. As of yet, we have not been able to tie together the low scores that this team is capable of in one match.”

National Trail’s overall record is now 4-6 and 3-6 in the CCC conference.
