INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — John DeVilbiss, of West Alexandria, a member of the West Alexandria Kiwanis Club, was elected to the Kiwanis International Board of Trustees last month.

Susan A. “Sue” Petrisin will be the first female president-designate of a major international service organization following elections at the 100th Annual Kiwanis International Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana last month.

Kiwanis celebrated 100 years of service to children of the world with a pancake lunch and birthday celebration, a playground dedication and a business meeting.

“We have only a certain number of days on this earth so we must use the gifts we have been given to make the world better. Working together, we can change the world,” said DeVilbiss, a 48-year member of Kiwanis.

DeVilbiss has served as Club Treasurer, Club President, Division 4 Lt. Governor, Ohio District Treasurer, and Ohio District Governor. In West Alexandria, the West Alexandria Kiwanis Club supports the Kiwanis International worldwide project to eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus, local projects for children including a Halloween parade, Easter Egg Hunt, and “Dial a Santa” at Christmas. There have been many other community projects over the 75 years the club has been in existence, including the annual Kiwanis Oktoberfest.

Sue Petrisin, of East Lansing, Michigan, will assume her duties on Oct. 1. She is associate director of alumni programs for the Michigan State University Alumni Association and has been involved in Kiwanis for nearly 25 years as a member of the Kiwanis Club of East Lansing.

“Kiwanis will concentrate on serving the children of the world in our 101st year,” Petrisin said. “Our mission is serving the children of the world, wherever we have a Kiwanis club, and we’ll focus on how to best serve our communities as we launch our next century of service.”
