Upham named bee winner

EATON —Eaton Middle School student Emma Upham took home the title of spelling bee champion, during the annual Preble County Spelling Bee held on Thursday Jan. 19

This year’s bee was hosted in the Performing Arts Center at Eaton Community Schools.

Winners and runners-up from school buildings holding grades three through eight were eligible to participate in the county bee.

This year’s runner-up was Adylan Panighetti from Bruce Elementary School in Eaton.

Other students participating included Jolene Bendel, Preble Shawnee, West Elkton Elementary; Kasidi Jo Daugherty, Tri-County North Elementary; Rhett Emig, Twin Valley South Elementary; Dillon Graves, National Trail Elementary; Henry Huff, Preble Shawnee Middle School; Alex Klingenberger, Tri-County North Elementary; Cheyanne Knisley, Twin Valley South Middle School; Kaimee Knisley, Tri-County North Middle School; Gracelyn Male, Bruce Elementary; Ethan Moles, Eaton Middle School; Maggie Montgomery, Preble Shawnee, West Elkton Elementary; Taylor Murray, Preble Shawnee Middle School; Mariah Phillips, National Trail Middle School; Abigail Smeltzer, Tri-County North Middle School; Addison Sparks, National Trail Middle School; Kaelyn Stayrook, Twin Valley South Middle School and Lillian Wharton, Twin Valley South Elementary.

Pronouncer for the county spelling bee was Daryl Michael, Enrichment Coordinator for the Preble County Educational Service Center and host was Assistant ESC Superintendent Shawn Hoff. Judges this year were Sharon Cobb, Barbara Cox, and Kathleen McCreary. The event was coordinated by Kathy Erbaugh from the Preble County Educational Service Center.

ESC officials extend their appreciation to the individual school spelling bee coordinators, including Kaitlin Lawson, Bruce Elementary in Eaton; Nick Flynn, Eaton Middle School; Amy Skinner, National Trail Elementary; Mark Wiseman, National Trail Middle School; Gina Back, Preble Shawnee, West Elkton Elementary; Jennifer Williams, Preble Shawnee Middle School; Darcy Fitch, Tri-County North Elementary; Stephanie Caudill, Tri-County North Middle School; Marissa Jackson and Elizabeth Woodrum, Twin Valley South Elementary and Margaret Krauss, Twin Valley South Middle School.

“Thank you” also goes out to the Eaton Community School for hosting this year’s event.

The spelling bee is sponsored by the Preble County Educational Service Center Governing Board.
