WEST ALEXANDRIA — In the words of Glen Mabry, “Track on.”

Mabry was a little surprised to be honored Thursday, April 13, prior to the start of the Twin Valley South Fred Durkle Invitational but once he saw many of his former girls track team members, he put “two and two together.”

“It was amazing to see them,” Mabry said of the Twin Valley South alumna who returned to help honor him for his many years of service to the district.

Since the 1990 school year, Mabry has been either a coach or teacher in the Twin Valley Community Schools. He is finishing his 33rd year as an educator, a timespan in which he has taught “History or math, been a comedian or star of the talent show, and coached a multitude of sports,” according to Twin Valley South Athletic Director Tony Augspurger.

In 1990, Mabry was girls’ track coach for a team which won TVS’ first district championship. Altogether he has served 27 years as head coach. In the past 21 years he has won at least one Preble County championship, one Cross County Conference championship, and one district championship. He has sent nine relay teams, and 14 individuals in 26 individual events, to State.

“All in all, he’s going on 28 years of excellence,” Augspurger said. “He’s always put the students first, and has been a great leader in everything he’s done.”

Mabry offered his thanks to the school district, his athletes, and their parents. “You’ve made this track program, not me,” he said.

Once the festivities ended, Mabry’s team, along with the Panthers’ boys’ team, captured team titles.
