South sweeps Blazer Relays

NEW PARIS — Twin Valley South’s boys and girls track teams combined to win 17 of 22 events en route to sweeping the Blazer Relays at National Trail on Tuesday, April 4.

South’s girls topped the seven team field with 78 points. Runner-up Franklin-Monroe totaled 56 points. Tri-County North was fourth with 24 points, while host National Trail was sixth with 11 points and Eaton was seventh with nine.

South’s boys outdistanced runner-up Arcanum 81-54. Tri-County North was fourth with 29 points and Eaton was fifth with 26. The host Blazers placed sixth with 22 points.

South’s trio of Abby Beneke, Mistin Campbell and Abby Creech won the high jump with a combined height of 13 feet, 6 inches. Tri-County North was third.

In the long jump, the combined team of Mylan Crews, Morgan Newhart and Hosanna Craft went 38-2 for first place.

In the shuttle hurdles, the team of Beneke, Craft, Campbell, Rylie Gearhart was second.

The 4×100 team of Madison Wright, Grace Stewart, Newhart and Crews was first in 53.7 seconds.

In the sprint medley Beneke, Sidney Mowell, Newhart and Creech was first in 2:03.5.

The 4×800 team of Megan Wright, Madison Wright, Stewart and Creech took the top spot in 10:25.00.

In the 4×200, Beneke, Stewart, Newhart, Crews were first in 1:57.

The distance medley team of Megan Wright, Madison Wright, Alexis Salyer and Gearhart crossed the finish line in 15:49.5 to easily win and the 4×400 team of Madison Wright, Stewart, Creech and Crews closed out the winning ways with a time of 4:35.9.

In the shot, Taryn Haynes, Haily Keener and Destiny Gethell placed third. The discus team of Haynes, Keener and Skylar Blevins also placed third.

For the boys, South won the shot put, discus, high jump, long jump, 4×200, 4×800, 4×100, 4×400 and the sprint medley. They were second in the shuttle hurdles. No individual names were listed in the results.

For the host Blazers, the discus team (Bryten Jones, Jesse Biser, Lane Hurd) placed sixth, the High Jump team (Adam Eyler, AJ Piatt, Josh Bishop) also placed sixth.

The girls shot put team (Kirsten Richards, Madison Miller, Cheyenne Gillett) placed fourth, and the discus team (Kirsten Richards, Michelle Massa, Cheyenne Gillett) also place fourth.

In the boys running events, the 4×200 team (CJ Wing, Nick Wellman, Austin Green, Ian Miller) placed fifth.

The 4×800 team (Weston Haws, Lane Unger, Adam Eyler, Thomas Hill) placed fourth and the 4×100 team (CJ Wing, Levi Moreland, Josh Cook, AJ Piatt) placed sixth.

The 4×400 team (Lane Unger, Josh Cook, Weston Haws, Jesse Biser) place fifth, the shuttle hurdle team (Austin Green, Lane Unger, Ian Miller, Jesse Biser) placed fourth.

The sprint medley team (Nick Wellman, Josh Cook, Levi Moreland, Brad Sorrell) placed sixth, and the distance medley team (Adam Eyler, Lane Unger, Weston Haws, Josh Bishop) placed first.

On the girls side, the4x800 team (Natalie Hunt, Lily Carpenter, Casey Thompson, Michelle Massa) placed fifth.

The 4×100 team (Kirsten Richards, Lily Carpenter, Madison Miller, Michelle Massa) placed sixth, the distance medley team (Natalie Hunt, Michelle Massa, Cheyenne Gillett, Casey Thompson) placed sixth, and the sprint medley team (Natalie Hunt, Casey Thompson, Lily Carpenter, Cheyenne Gillett) placed sixth.
