CAMDEN — Four men were arrested last week after a rash of breaking and entering incidents in the Village of Camden.
According to Police Chief Matt Spurlock, Camden Police first responded to a residence on South Liberty Street on Sunday, May 22, on a report a detached building had been broken into. Several hand tools, power and yard tools were stolen from the outbuilding, according to Spurlock.
“This was just the first of many that would occur in several days to follow,” Spurlock noted.
On Monday, May 23, CPD responded to the 100 block of N. Main Street on a report of a detached garage which was broken into.
Several hand tools, power tools and an air compressor were stolen from this garage, as well.
Two reports of breaking and enterings came in to the CPD on Thursday, May 26. According to Spurlock, officers responde to the 300 block of N. Main and the 200 bloc of N. Main. At both addresses, garages detached from the residences had been broken into.
At one address, a gas powered weed eater and blower were stolen from the garage. From the other, the victim reported a DeWalt drill and a Hitachi nail gun had been stolen from the garage.
Within days of the reported crimes, suspects in the crimes were apprehended and arrested.
According to Spurlock, on Tuesday, May 24, Camden Police officers responded to 43 S. Lafayette Street for an unknown problem.
“Upon the officers arrival the homeowner invited officers into the residence to look at damage to the inside of the property,” Spurlock noted. “While inside the residence, officers observed property that had been reported stolen on May 23, from the 100 block of N. Main.”
After investigation, officers arrested Levi Robertson, 22, on a charge of receiving stolen property, Spurlock said.
On May 26, with the assistance of the Preble County Sheriff’s Office, CPD responded to Cash Land in Eaton. While at Cash Land, officers recovered property which was stolen in three of the four recent breaking and enterings. That same day, CPD made contact with Timothy Seabolt, 45, at 46 S. Liberty Street in Camden.
Seabolt was taken into custody and charged with receiving stolen property.
“Stolen property was also recovered at this residence,” Spurlock added.
Also on Thursday, May 26, Camden Police officers, again assisted by the PCSO, initiated a traffic stop on N. Main Street and McKinley, on a vehicle driven by Anthony Carver of 119 Katherine Court.
It was later found that Carver had stolen property in his possession from three of the four cases. Officers also located stolen property at Carver’s residence.
Carver, 29, was arrested on three counts of receiving stolen property and also charged with driving under suspension.
Thursday, May 26, was a busy day for law enforcement in Camden, and a bad day for thieves, as the CPD and PCSO also initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Mark Weinstiger of 349 N. Main St., Camden, was a passenger, in the 200 block of N. Main Street in the village.
Weinstiger was wanted for his role in the cases.
Weinstiger, 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Spurlock.
“We have since had another person come forward from the 300 block of North Main,” Spurlock said via email late last week. “They had hand tools stolen from their garage.”
According to Spurlock, those tools have been recovered, and Carver will be charged with an additional count of receiving stolen property.
Carver, Robertson, Seabolt and Weinstiger all remained in custody at the Preble County Jail at press time, Monday, May 30.
