MONROE TOWNSHIP — A Preble County man faces charges including drug trafficking after a search warrant led PC Sheriff’s deputies to a suspected methamphetamine operation.

According to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson, deputies executed a search warrant on Monday, Sept. 12, shortly after 1 p.m. at 448 Swishers Mill Road in Monroe Township.

Simpson said investigators had received numerous complaints of suspected drug activity at the residence.

According to Simpson, deputies found three adults in the residence when they arrived.

“Investigators located methamphetamine and evidence consistent with trafficking in methamphetamine,” Simpson said in a press release earlier this week. “Deputies also located a handgun in the residence which belongs to the suspect. The suspect is currently prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior drug convictions,” he said.

Deputies have formally charged Henry “Kelley” Lawson, 53, of the Swishers Mill Road address, with aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a third degree felony; and having weapons while under disability, a third-degree felony. The charges were filed in Eaton Municipal Court.

“Lawson has a lengthy criminal history, including prior convictions for methamphetamine-related activity and other crimes in Kentucky and Ohio,” Simpson reported. Simpson noted, Lawson also has prior convictions in Preble County for having weapons under disability (2007,) aggravated possession of methamphetamine (2009,) and aggravated trafficking in drugs and having weapons under disability (2013.)

At press time, Lawson remained in the Preble County Jail pending his initial court appearance. The other two adults at the residence were released, according to Simpson.

North Central EMS and the West Manchester Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene, according to Simpson.
