KHN offers free drive-thru flu shots

KETTERING — The flu is a highly contagious disease, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May.

To help protect area residents from getting and spreading the flu, Kettering Health Network is offering free drive-thru flu shots at the network’s 10 emergency centers, including the center in Eaton — just drive up and roll up your sleeve.

Shots will be given at the Preble County Medical Center, on Monday, Oct. 23, from 8-9 a.m.

This unique program also serves as an emergency preparedness exercise in the event Kettering Health Network must activate a mass immunization program.

Who is eligible?

Adults, 18 years and older, with a valid ID are eligible for the shots. Children are not eligible. According to KHN officials, children require a different dosage of the flu vaccine, which the facilities do not have at our drive-thru locations.

The free flu shots will be administered by experienced nurses who will be supported in the field by physicians, critical care teams, first responders and network volunteers. For quick service, wear short or easy-to-roll-up sleeves.

Nearly 5,000 area residents will be offered free flu shots on a first-come, first-served basis, while quantities last.
