EATON — Gillman Home Center, located at 120 W. Lexington Road in Eaton, is officially open and ready for business.

The Preble County location held its grand opening celebration on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22. The event featured a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony, games, food, and many sales.

While the store has been open since Sept. 18, they wanted to hold a celebration to welcome the community into their new location and introduce Preble County to what Gillman Home Center has to offer.

In 1962, Carl Gillman founded Gillman Brother’s Lumber to service the community of Brookville, Indiana. The small lumber yard made Charlie Gillman interested in retail and building materials. He continued to work in custom home building for many years, but then decided to focus solely on retail and serving other contractors. Carl Gillman passed away in 2015.

Charlie Gillman founded Gillman Home Centers in 1980. Gillman Home Centers is a full-service hardware and lumber dealer.

“This store in Eaton will make 10 Gillman locations. It is a family-owned business. We are just a family owned and operated hardware store. We’re here to finish your home building project from the ground up,” Store Manager Jeff Sievers explained.

“Since our soft opening on Sept. 18 business has been great. We have been averaging about 200-250 customers a day and we are looking forward to further serving the community.”

For the grand opening celebration the store had grilling (with all the proceeds going towards the Eaton Cheerleaders), a monster-truck car smashing, a live satellite broadcast from Kicks 96, a drawing for different items, and many sales throughout the weekend.

“We’re here to meet your needs and service the community,” Sievers added. “If there is anything we can do to help out, we’re open to that.”
