Traffic stop leads to drug trafficking arrest

EATON — A traffic stop Christmas week led to the arrest of an Indiana woman on drug trafficking charges, according to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson.

On Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at approximately 8:36 p.m. a Preble County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle in the 1300 block of North Barron Street in Eaton for a traffic violation.

“During the initial contact with the occupants of the vehicle, criminal indicators were present,” Sheriff Mike Simpson said in a press release. “A K-9 unit from Camden PD responded to assist. The K-9 alerted to the vehicle. As a result, a probable cause search was conducted.”

During the search, according to Simpson, evidence was located, including multiple syringes, a digital scale and distribution baggies. Deputies also located nearly two ounces of suspected methamphetamine, Simpson said.

A female passenger was arrested and transported to the Preble County Jail.

“During the booking process, the female was found to be in possession of approximately two grams of suspected fentanyl,” the release continued.

The suspect, Heather Nicole Parks, 35, of Richmond, Indiana, was housed in the Preble County Jail and was formally charged in Eaton Municipal Court with the following crimes:

•Aggravated possession of drugs, a 2nd degree felony

•Illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto grounds of a government facility, a third-degree felony.

•Aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony.

•Possession of fentanyl-related compound, a fourth-degree felony.

•Possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor.

•Illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

Bond was set at $10,085.00 cash, according to court records.Parks remained housed in the Preble County Jail at press time.
