WEST ALEXANDRIA — The Twin Valley Community Local Schools Board of Education made the unanimous decision during its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 23, to appoint Braxton Campbell to the position of athletic director.

Campbell was recently hired to coach the TVS boys’ basketball team, after having a successful run as head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Dixie High School, in New Lebanon.

Members of the board welcomed Campbell to the position and expressed their excitement to work with him in the future.

“I’m real excited for the opportunity,” Campbell said. “Just thanking the board, the administration, for their confidence in me. I know my family and I are ecstatic. I’m really excited to get to become a Panther and lead the athletics program, to help support our kids the best way we can. I’m looking forward to getting to work with everybody. I think the future is bright and the possibilities are limitless here. I’m ready to get to work!”

In other business:

  • During the administrative reports presented, Success Program Coordinator Leslie Bassler updated the board on the success of the program this year. Bassler received 62 referrals, aided and assisted 34 different local families, resulting in a total of 77 students actively served within the school district. The program also saw success in its Christmas for Kids and Shoes for Shoeless events, which saw 172 students receive Christmas gifts, and 154 pairs of shoes given to those in need. In cooperation with RexArc International Inc., 30 coats were given out to students in need this year. The board expressed its deep gratitude to Bassler and everyone who helps run the program, saying it is a, “vital,” part of the school in helping students in need.
  • Principal Derek Flatter updated the board on the tentative plans for the 2022 high-school graduation on Thursday, May 26. “Weather doesn’t look perfect for Thursday,” said Flatter. “We’re looking to possibly having a contingency plan for it being Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. kind of no matter what, with it being in the gym if (the football field) is completely washed out. Obviously, if it’s not, we’ll be on the field.” The board and all members involved plan on moving forward with the original graduation proceedings, but planned to move the ceremony into the school gym if necessary.

The Twin Valley Community Local Schools Board of Education holds a meeting on the fourth Monday of every month, at 100 Education Drive, West Alexandria, in the school Media Center, at 5:30 p.m.
