Preble Shawnee earns No. 3 seed

PREBLE COUNTY — Preble Shawnee earned the highest seed among the county’s five girls’ basketball teams for the upcoming sectional tournaments which are scheduled to begin next week.

The Arrows (16-5) are the No. 3 seed in the Division III North sectional tournament to be held at Covington and Northridge High Schools.

Bethel (15-4) is the No. 1 seed, Miami East (16-5) is the No. 2 seed and Milton-Union (15-5) is the No. 4 seed in the 19-team field.

Shawnee, which lost in the district final last season, will open this postseason against No. 11 Springfield Northwestern (7-12) on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 12:30 p.m., at Covington High School in the Dayton 1 bracket. The winner will meet No. 15 seed Graham (5-14) in the sectional final on Wednesday Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The district semifinal will be held on Monday, Feb. 20 against either No. 6 Dixie (14-6), No. 8 West Liberty-Salem (12-7) or No. 9 Greeneview (8-11).

Eaton (11-9) is the 12th seed in the 21-team Division II North sectional to be held at Tecumseh and Trotwood-Madison High Schools. Alter is the top-seed, with Waynesville (17-3) earning the No. 2 spot, Tecumseh No. 3 and Carroll (11-10) is the fourth-seed.

The Eagles, coming off the programs first-ever district championship last season, will open against No. 5 Greenon (16-4) on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Tecumseh. The winner will meet either No. 9 Thurgood Marshall (11-8) or No. 14 Trotwood (8-10) on Saturday, Feb. 11 in the sectional final at 6 p.m. The sectional final winner will advance to the district semifinal on Thursday, Feb. 16 and play either No. 1 Alter (17-3), No. 20 Stivers (7-10) or No. 21 Kenton Ridge (3-15) at 5:30 p.m.

In Division IV, Tri-County North (12-9) is the highest seeded county team at No. 4 in the 11-team field to be played at Versailles High School. National Trail (9-12) is the seventh seed and Twin Valley South (1-18) is the 10th seed.

Tri-Village (21-0) is the top-seed, with Southestern (13-7) and Covington (12-8) begin the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds.

North will begin tournament play on Wednesday, Feb. 15 against No. 6 Catholic Central (8-11) at 6:30 p.m. The winner will meet National Trail in the lower bracket sectional final on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m.

In the upper bracket, Twin Valley South received a bye and will play the winner of the Tri-Village and Yellow Springs game in the sectional final on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m.

The district semifinal will be held Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.

Division II district final games are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 at Mason Middle School.

The Division III district finals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at Springfield High School.

Division IV district championship games are set for Saturday, Feb. 25 at Troy High School.
