Frightening experience today

I had a pretty frightening experience today. For only the second time in my life I had to go to Lowe’s by myself and try to buy some things that I needed. BF had always been my go to person for all things hardware or anything that had to do with physical labor.

He was so good at all that stuff, and I was totally inept. But I had my good points, also. What were they you ask? I’m thinking. I’ll let you know later.

Back to my frightening experience. I only needed four things and I had my list with me. I have actually been in Lowe’s before, but I was always with an experienced Lowe’s shopper and mostly, I just pushed the cart and followed along and prayed I didn’t get lost.

Everything is stacked about 20 feet high, labeled and numbered so I thought maybe I could find stuff by just looking at overhead signs. Well, that lasted about 3 seconds. I approached the first man I saw and asked him where the furnace filters were. He didn’t blink an eye and said, aisle 17 and left me standing there with a blank stare on my face. I managed to find them and then I had to decipher the size I needed and if I needed one or two.

Okay, I got through that so onward. The next thing on my list was something that was hard for me to explain to a man, so I was hoping I would see a woman who maybe knew something about Lowe’s stuff. Sure enough I found two of them and they listened to my cries and headed me in a direction to find the next item.

After about two turns around the store, I gave up and decided I would wait until my son or another male person would go with me to Lowe’s or better yet, go instead of me.

All right, I have one of four items that were on my list and I headed to the front of the store to check out. The only checkout was a self-checkout. Now, I’m good at self-checkout at Walmart (I actually consider myself a pro there) but I was afraid I would not make the grade at Lowe’s.

But what could I do? I was at the register and I had to do it. I managed to do it without calling attention to myself and quickly got my stuff and headed out to the parking lot. Gibbs was patiently waiting for me and greeted me with a sloppy wet doggy kiss.

Mission sort of accomplished but I don’t think I will ever try that by myself again. Maybe if I had another woman to go with me, I would feel more secure in making a purchase. I’m really tempted to try ordering online and have them try to figure out what I’m looking for and then send it to me. Yep, that’s my plan.
