Bruce students explore careers

EATON — Recently all Bruce Elementary 5th grade students were given the opportunity to learn about future career paths and training opportunities available at Miami Valley Career Technology Center.

Students participated in 15-minute sessions sharing some of the skills needed and opportunities available in the career programs of Veterinary Science, Health Occupations/Pre-nursing, Culinary Arts, Sports Medicine, Graphic and Commercial Arts, as well as Robotics and Automation.

According to Harold Niehaus, Career Connections Director for the Preble County ESC, students commented that they enjoyed the presentations and learned the following: “I learned that bones are spongy on the inside.” “I learned that in Culinary Arts that you have food wars (competitions).” “I liked the lemon shake ups!” “I liked that in Veterinary Science you got to work with animals.” “It was neat to see different types of bones.” “It was neat to see the different art projects the students did.”

Niehaus helped connect the Bruce Elementary teachers, (with Suzanne Niehaus as the lead contact,) with Todd Engel at Miami Valley CTC to bring current juniors and seniors as presenters.

“The MVCTC students did a fantastic job engaging students and answering students’ questions about all of the career opportunities available,” Harold Niehaus said.
