CLAYTON — With 22 runs in two games Saturday the Northmont girls fastpitch softball team swept a doubleheader from Preble Shawnee.

The Lady Bolts pounded out 18 hits in the first game to score a 12-2 run rule victory in five innings.

Freshman Jadyn Johnson went 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Pitcher Zoey Hodge helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Sydney Strickland went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Cardie McCormick went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Sam McGilton went 3-for-4 with one run and three RBIs. Lacie Knick 2-for-3 with one RBI. Morgan Pendleton went 1-for-2 with two runs and Shelby Shingler went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.

Hodge pitched five innings, gave up three hits, one earned run with nine strikeouts.

“Our bats came alive today. We hit very well with some big extra base hits,” said Northmont coach Kris Mangen. “Jadyn Johnson hit the first home run of her high school career and Sydney Strickland hit a double off the top of the fence, so the girls did real well offensively as well as defensively.”

Game two saw the Lady Bolts score another run rule victory 10-0 in five innings. Jadyn Johnson went the distance in the pitcher’s circle allowing only two hits with seven strikeouts.

Lacie Knick, Sam McGilton, Ava Oberer and Sydney Strickland each had one hit with Oberer and Emily Bole driving in one run. Northmont drew eight walks.

Johnson and Strickland both scored twice with Knick, McGilton, Oberer, Cardie McCormick, Jaiden O’Dell Howard, Morgan Pendleton, and Shelby Shingler scoring one run.

The doubleheader victory ended a four game losing streak during which the Lady Bolts managed to generate only four runs.

Northmont improved to 13-9 overall while Preble Shawnee fell to 4-11 in the non-conference games.
