SOMERS TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old Camden resident died when the truck he was driving was struck by a train early Saturday morning, April 29.
The Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the single-vehicle fatal crash involving a train which occurred Saturday morning at approximately 3:29 a.m. on Barnetts Mill Road in Somers Township, according to an OSP press release.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 GMC Sierra, operated by Mason C. Roell was traveling west on Barnetts Mill Road when it traveled across a level railway crossing intersection and was struck by a Norfolk Southern Train #4512, according to the OSP.
Roell succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
OSP troopers were assisted at the scene by the Camden-Somers Fire & EMS, Gasper Township Fire & EMS and the Camden Police Department.
The crash remained under investigation at press time.
