CAMDEN — Camden Village Council announced during its Thursday, May 4, meeting, the very first Village of Camden Shop Hop, beginning May 12, and ending May 14.

The Shop Hop will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the first two days, and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the final day. The Shop Hop encourages residents and visitors alike to visit Camden’s numerous antique vendors, such as Ohio Junkers, Jake’s Junk, Memories on Main, The Sheep Shed, Treasures at Forty-Seven and The Road Less Traveled.

According to council member Debbie Hickman, there will be prizes, refreshments, and a great opportunity for shoppers to explore Camden’s many locally owned businesses. The event is open to all ages and looks to showcase Camden’s unique entrepreneurs.

In other business:

• Council read the second of three readings regarding a resolution allowing the keeping of poultry in the village. Council approved the reading and will hold the third and final reading during a Thursday, May 18, meeting.

• Council discussed creating a new position to fill the vacancy of Benjamin Gunderson, who previously worked with the village as Deputy Village Administrator. It would be the responsibility of the new position to work to develop economic growth within the village, applying for grants, working with business owners and contractors.

• Council considered a request from the carnival and Camden Fire Department to postpone the MedShip building project until after the May 31 carnival has taken place, as the MedShip demolition and construction project may interfere with the previously decided location for the event. However, council expressed its belief the MedShip project takes priority over the carnival, with council member Kelly Doran stating, “It’s a dime holding up a dollar.”

Likewise, the rest of council agreed the project should remain unhindered. Council is currently looking for a new location for the carnival.

Camden Village Council meetings are public meetings held on the first and third Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m. at Camden Town Hall.
