Brookville basketball court refurbished

BROOKVILLE — City manager Sonja Keaton informed council and the park board the basketball court at Golden Gate Park has been refurbished.

“The city received an anonymous donation of $14,220 to rehab the basketball court,” Keaton said.

“The basketball court has seen better days,” Keaton added.

Keaton said the court is now resurfaced and striped.

Keaton also said the city purchased and installed new basketball goals and nets.

“Our service department painted the existing posts that were there because they were actually put down in concrete pretty deep and we didn’t want to have to tear that up because it would have removed some of the existing basketball court,” Keaton said.

Keaton also indicated the basketball court and the neighboring tennis court will receive new lighting.

Keaton said the lights for both the basketball court and tennis courts haven’t worked for quite some time.

“Now that the basketball court has been refurbished the plan is to place lights for both the basketball court and the tennis court,” Keaton said.

Keaton said she believes LED lighting will be installed at the basketball court and tennis courts.

“This will really spruce up that area of the park,” Keaton said.

Keaton also informed council the city received a donation of a “gently used” playset from Dayton KOA Holiday Campgrounds, located at 7796 Wellbaum Road in Brookville.

“I took a look at it. The service department took a look at it. It is in really good condition,” Keaton said.

Keaton indicated the playset is geared for younger-aged children.

She also said the playset is comprised a many slides.

Keaton said the service department dismantled the playset and stored it in the city garage.

“We’re looking for a home for that playset,” Keaton said.

Keaton said the playset could possibly be located at Westbrook Park.

“Our concern is we need a 40-foot by 40-foot area to place it and it’s going to be really tight if we put it in Westbrook Park,” Keaton said.

Keaton noted Ward Park is another consideration because the playset is smaller and made for younger children.

Keaton said wherever the playset is located, she is grateful to KOA for the donation.

“I would like to thank KOA for reaching out to us to see it if was something we could use,” Keaton said
