TROY — Tri-County North will have two representatives at the 115th Annual Boys Ohio High School Athletic Association Track and Field State Tournament beginning Friday morning at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Senior Jonathan Landis vaulted his way to a regional runner-up finish in the pole vault clearing a career best height of 13 feet, 8 inches during the Division III regional tournament at Troy High School on Wednesday, May 24.
The top four in each event automatically qualify for the state meet.
Landis will be joined at state by freshman Clint Barnes who cleared 6 feet to finish third in the high jump.
Landis made his first two attempts at 12-0 and 12-6. He then missed his first two attempts at 13-0 before clearing the bar on his final attempt at the height to keep his state chances alive.
He cleared 13-4 on his second attempt and 13-8 on his fist attempt to secure a top four finish.
Barnes cleared the opening height of 5-4 on his first attempt during competition Friday, May 26. He cleared 5-8 on his fist jump as well. Like Landis, Barnes then missed on his first two attempts 5-10 before clearing the height on his final attempt.
After clearing 5-11 on his first attempt, he missed at 6-0 before going over the bar on his second try.
Barnes and two others missed at 6-1 but Barnes finished third due to less misses during the competition.
