BROOKVILE — The park board began making preparations for the annual Christmas in the Park Dive-thru event in Golden Gate Park, located at 545 Upper Lewisburg-Salem Road.
This year’s kick-off event is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6, from 6-8 p.m.
After the kick-off event, the park will be open to view the Christmas displays from 6-9 p.m. through Jan. 1, 2025.
Park board president Adam Blevins said he wants to get as many people as possible involved in the event in order help the park board set up the displays.
“The big problem is we are four people,” Blevins said of himself and the other three park board members.
“It’s going to be challenging for four people to decorate an entire park,” Blevins continued.
“So how do you get more help? You get individuals involved who enjoy those types of things and want to be a part of it,” Blevins said.
Blevins said plans are to contact last year’s participants to ascertain if they plan to participate this year.
Participating last year were Eye Docs, Cub Scout Pack 47, the Brookville Optimist Club, the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce, Future Farmers of America, Brave Church, Brookhaven Retirement Community, the Brookville Fire Department, the Brookville Police Department, the Brookville Flower Shop, Bare Naked Tanning, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, the Brookville Kiwanis Club, ARO Landscaping and Palette of Threads.
Blevins said the park board also plans to reach out to new groups to see if they are interested in participating this year.
“We need to talk to people and the businesses in the community that may want to be involved,” Blevins said.
Blevins indicated decorating will take place Nov. 20-23.
Blevins said the park board will have further discussions on the event at its Oct. 8 meeting.
