Library offering genealogy class

EATON — The Preble County Room is holding a free class for budding genealogists to get introduced to the many local, regional, and national resources for researching family histories.

“I’ve heard from a lot of people who want to research their genealogy, but many don’t know how to start,” said Preble County Room Supervisor Angie Getter. “In this class, we’ll give people a good basis on which to start their research.”

The ‘Intro to Genealogy’ class will cover the basics of genealogy, including tips for searching, forms, available sources for records, and an introduction into the different databases and organizations available for research.

The class will be held at the Preble County Room at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton on Saturday, March 4. The class will start at 1 p.m. Call (937) 456-4970 to register for the class.

The Preble County Room is the genealogy department of Preble County District Library. It provides access to thousands of local physical records, including birth, death, and marriage records, family histories, newspapers on microfilm, and much more. The Preble County Room also operates, and continually adds to, two online databases of searchable local records. Those are available at www.preblelibrary.org/genealogy from any internet-connected device.
