SOUTHERN PREBLE COUNTY — In remembrance: Our local communities will remember those who have fought for our freedom and lost their lives as well as remembering those love ones we have lost. Gratis will have services starting with a parade on Sunday with line up at 1 p.m. in front of the post office followed by services at the Memorial Stone at the cemetery on Brubaker Rd.

West Elkton will have a parade starting with line up at 9 a.m. at the ballpark followed by services at the memorial at the cemetery on Ohio 503 and Camden will start with a parade with lineup at 1 p.m. at the VFW on S. Main St. followed by a ceremony at the memorial at the cemetery on N. Main Street.

Our prayers are with all those family members remembering their lost this Memorial Day!

Trivia answers: It was Herman, Daryl and Larry Hollenbaugh who all served as fire chiefs in Gratis (Daryl will serve as grand marshal of this year’s Memorial parade)and Harvey’s was the hangout in the 70s in Camden.

Help please: The Gratis Bicentennial Committee is still in extreme need of help at this year’s 200th birthday celebration. According to Stacy Johnson help is needed on Friday, June 9, to help set up the tent and other items as well as help both Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11, for many jobs. Calling all civic groups, churches, ball teams etc. — call 937-787-3728 for more info.Still need vendors and parade participants also.

It’s a boy: Sawyer Lee Stansell was born Monday, May 22, weighing in at 8 lbs. 10 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long. Parents are Zachary and Courtney Stansell, brother Grayson of West Elkton and maternal grandparents are Clyde and Crystal Dishman, paternal grandparents Eddie and Cindy Ingram and David Stansell.

Birthday: Derek Pheanis.

Football camp: Preble Shawnee Wee Arrows will hold a football camp June 22-24, led by NFL player Jimmy Verdon. It’s open to kids in kindergarten-8th grade, and any school district. The event is $90 includes all meals, camp shirt and two-night stay and will be held at Camp America. Participants must be registered by June 1. Forms can be picked up at Camden BP.
