AKS 75 Year Anniversary Fall Flower Sale

Alpha Kappa Sorority is approaching its 75 year anniversary of service to the West Alex and surrounding communities.

We are thrilled to be offering a Fall flower sale this year to help support our philanthropic endeavors in the community this year! Please contact an AKS member to order your fall mums, asters, etc. to decorate for the coming season, or contact Wendy Chesney at [email protected].

We appreciate all your continued support and are looking forward to making this seventy-fifth year of community service one that will plant a seed of giving that surpasses anything we have done before!

Some of the activities and organizations we regularly support via gifts of service, clothing, food, money, etc. include:

TVS- two scholarships to graduating Seniors, the West Alex Fire Dept. the West Alex EMS, the West Alex WABO, the West Alex Food Bank, Individual families/students of TVS in need, the West Alex Library, the West Alex Senior Citizen Dinner, the West Alex Senior Citizen Bingo and the TVS Community Picnic.

Oktoberfest Queen Contest

Alpha Kappa Sorority is sponsoring the Oktoberfest Queen Contest to be held on Saturday, October 10 following the Opening Ceremonies at Peace Park on E. Dayton Street. High School girls in Grades 9 through 12 interested in running for Oktoberfest Queen should pick up an application in the TVS High School Office. Applications are due back in the high school office by 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25.

American Legion

Rock the Jukebox on Friday, Sept. 4, from 8-11 p.m.

Our SAL Golf Tournament is Sunday Sept. 13 with a tee-off at 8 a.m. Sign up in the Canteen.

Enjoy Old-time Country and Western music every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. with the Senior Fun Bunch. This includes coffee and snacks with no cover charge and is open to the public. Call the Canteen at 839-4825 or watch Facebook for any updates.

Annual Firefighter Fallen Hero Dance

The Fifth Annual West Alexandria Firefighter’s Association Fallen Hero Dance is Saturday Sept. 12 from 8 p.m. to midnight. at the Old Twin Valley South High School, 45 N. Main Street. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Call the fire house at 839-4668 to purchase your tickets at $15 per person, which includes draft beer and/or BYOB, DJ Music and a list of fantastic raffle items. Come pay tribute and enjoy the evening with us.

BBQ Chicken and Pork Chops

Once again, the West Alexandria Celebration Committee is offering Half a Chicken Dinner for $7 or 3/4lb. Pork Chop Dinner for $8, including your choice of green/baked beans with a roll and apple sauce, prepared by Hog Wild Smokehouse Ribs. Pick up dinners on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 11a.m. – 1p.m. next to the Subway on Ohio 503 N. Order dinners by Sept. 9 to ensure availability. Orders can be mailed to WACC c/o Michelle Laughlin, 41 W. Second St. W. Alexandria, OH 45381 or drop off orders at The Pin Up Shoppe at 50 W. Second St. Orders can also be phoned-in to Carol Lunsford at 839-4085.

TVS Band Uniform Sale

The Twin Valley South High School Marching Band will be selling the old band uniforms. Cost for a uniform (jacket, bibbers, hat, plume) is $45. Contact Kathy Landwehr at 937-839-4325.

Fire/EMS Rescue Training

West Alexandria Fire/EMS hosted a grain bin rescue and high elevation rescue training on Aug. 24. Members present learned the key components to removing a person trapped in a grain bin and how to safely remove a person from higher elevations. A huge thank you to Eaton Fire Division for supplying instructions and technical rescue equipment needed, Brubaker Grain for allowing us to use their facility and Lewisburg Fire/EMS for attending.

Foodbank

Needs this month include corn, peas, spaghetti and sauce, egg noodles, pancake mix, shampoo and toothpaste. Fresh garden produce and school supplies welcome. The Foodbank is open from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays and is located at St. John Church, 20 E. South Street. Contact the Foodbank at 839-1615 for additional information. Non-perishable donations can also be dropped off at Salem and St. John Lutheran Churches on the first Sunday of each month.

St. John Church

There will be a Free Community Dinner Thursday, Sept. 24, from 4-6 p.m. There will also be a program with the meal that is sponsored by the Church Growth and Mission Committee and funded by the Hazel Scott Fund.

We have scheduled a trip to La Comedia on Thursday, Oct. 1, for The Church Basement Ladies in “The Last Potluck Supper.”

Church of the Brethren

Free Community Meal

West Alexandria Church of the Brethren will host its first free community crock pot meal for fall on Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Community meals will continue on the first Sunday of every month at the same time slot. New Beginning Sunday

Come and join us for service at 10:30a.m. on Sept. 13 as we launch a new season of ministry at West Alexandria Church of the Brethren. All first time guests will receive a $10 gift certificate to Buckeye Jake’s and are welcome to join us at Jake’s after the service.

Salem Lutheran Church

Sunday, Sept. 13, Salem will begin our Fall schedule with Sunday School, for all ages, at 9:30a.m. and Worship at 10:30a.m.

Jr. Lutherans

Junior Lutherans, for ages Preschool through sixth grade, will begin next Wednesday, September 9, with a meal at 6p.m. and program from 6:30-7:30p.m. We will continue to meet Wednesday evenings until the Lenten Season next Spring.

Social Outings of Salem

LYO

LYO, grades 6-12 only, will have a Lock in Overnight on Friday Sept. 11 through Saturday Sept. 12. Drop off at the Fellowship Hall at 7:30p.m. and pick up the following morning at 9a.m. Enjoy games, movies, food, Bible study and more! Friends are welcome, too! LYO will make a trip to Young’s Dairy after worship on Sunday, Sept. 17, to return by 7 p.m.

LaComedia

Sign up now for a trip to La Comedia for Church Basement Ladies 5, held on Sept. 13. The S.O.S. group has reservations for 25 and they are filling up fast. A sign-up sheet and additional information can be found on the hallway bulletin board. To schedule your reservation, contact Diana Wall at [email protected] or call 839-5326.
