N. American Wild Game Cook-Off

Spic’n Span Pots’n Pans 4-H Club is sponsoring another North American Wild Game Cook-off during the Preble County Fair on Sunday., July 30 at 6p.m. Register by 5p.m. and begin setting up in the Toney Building. Only one entry permitted per class, but you may enter as many classes as desired. Classes are Big Game, which includes Whitetail Deer, Bear, Moose, Pronghorn, Caribou and Elk, Small Game, which includes squirrel, rabbit, raccoon, groundhog and beaver, Fish from any wild game fish, Bird from any wild game bird, and Exotic, which includes Turtle, Lynx, Armadillo, Frog Legs, Rattlesnake and Alligator. All game must be native to North America or have a hunting, trapping or fishing season in North America. Entries will be judged on taste and presentation requiring 70% of the dish to be comprised of the game animal or fish for the entry. Food will need to be cooked prior to arrival and kept warm and there must be enough for five samples. Prizes include $25 to each class winner and $100 to the Grand Champion. Entrants are required to pay their own entrance to the fairgrounds.

American Legion

A steak fry will be held July 22 from 5-7:30 p.m. including a 50/50 raffle at James E. Ryan, Post 322, 1477 Ohio 503 South.

The Senior Fun Bunch meets every Thursday from 1-4 p.m. for music and dancing.

Euchre and Ladies Night every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. with a 50/50 raffle.

Family Fun Day will be Sunday, Aug. 6.

WA Community Picnic

The West Alexandria Business/Community/School Partnership committee will hold the annual Community Picnic on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Commons at the Twin Valley South School. Since the start of the picnic in 1992 this annual event has been a very popular event to start the school year and bring the community together. The cost of the meal tickets is $1.50. There will be drawings throughout the evening for door prizes donated by merchants as well as the usual entertainment. You can buy additional tickets for the drawing for $1 each.

Farmer’s Market

Come and support the WA Celebration Committee’s weekly Farmers’ Market every Thursday from 5-8 p.m. through the end of August, held in Peace Park. All funds raised are used by the Celebration Committee to provide the community with fireworks for July 4, and new toys for Santa Villa in December. Funds also will be used for needed repairs at Santa Villa. Contact Carol Lunsford at 839-4085 for additional information or to reserve your space.

Church of the Brethren

The next Free Community Meal will be Wednesday, Aug. 2 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, 22 E. Oak Street.

Salem Lutheran Church

The Youth will be camping at Hueston Woods July 21-23 with meals provided.

In celebration of our 200-year anniversary, we will be having a float in the Preble County Fair Parade July 29.

The Middle School Ministry meets Sunday evenings at 7 p.m.

We are collecting new stuffed animals or monetary donations for the Stuffed Animal Therapy Ministry, helping children of our county in times of crisis.

The Women of the Church are collecting dimes in water bottles for missions.

We are accepting your unwanted or recently expired coupons to donate to “Coups for Troops” where coupons up to two months expired can be used overseas in the military commissaries.
