Make sure to get your game boards turned in by July 29, the final day of the Summer Reading Program. We’ll be drawing for prizes next Monday!

Fantasy Filmmaker (ages 8-12)

Summer is a great time for epic fantasy blockbusters. Kids can work to make their own fantastic short film using stop-motion in July. Reservations are required for this program. Back to School game night

Join us for a night of games as we get ready for school at the New Paris Library on Monday, Aug. 7 at 5 p.m.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

It’s that time of year again, when your stuffed animals get free rein of the library for one night.

On Monday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m., children can come to the Eaton Library and hear a story, have a nighttime snack, complete a craft and let their stuffed animal spend the night in the library. The next day, the children can pick up their animal and a book of all their friend’s adventures. Children of all ages can come dressed in their pajamas! Make sure not to bring the animal your child sleeps with, as it will be at the library all night.

Homeschool Hour: The Great American Eclipse

Get ready for the eclipse on Aug. 21 with a special session of Homeschool Hour. This will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. in 38 years. Learn how eclipses happen, what makes this one special, and how you can prepare for the special day.

Homeschool Hour is at the Eaton Library on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. The class will repeat on Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m.

Tween Film Workshop (ages 8-12)

This monthly program will allow young filmmakers the opportunity to learn more about the production process. On Aug. 9 at 4:15 p.m. at the Eaton Library, we will focus on camera work! We will discuss camera movements, angles, shot composition, and more… plus participants will learn how to work the library’s new DSLR camera! No experience is necessary, and registration is not required.

Cubelets!

Build a robot at the West Elkton Library on Monday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. We have a kit with cube-shaped robot parts, and you can build a bot that senses light, moves, and even responds to movement!

Lego Club

The Eaton Library will have a monthly Lego program when school-age children can build, complete challenges, or just have fun. It will meet the last Monday of each month from 4-5 p.m. The first program is Monday, Aug. 28 at 4 p.m.

Children can use the library’s Lego collection. If you bring Legos from home, please bring them in a container labeled with your child’s name.

Teens

Games (teens in grades 6-12)

Play board and card games like Telestrations and Pit at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 3:30 p.m.

Moana Sing-Along (grades 6-12)

This two-hour program will offer a screening of the popular Disney film Moana. Brush up on the lyrics in advance, because singing along will be encouraged! Join us Aug. 8 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Library.

Heroes (grades 6-12)

The 2006 Sci-fi superhero series Heroes begins with some supernatural mutations and a major eclipse.

With the upcoming Great American Eclipse, there’s no better time to celebrate the superheroes and science fiction that made this show so successful! This teen program will be on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 3:30 p.m.

Teens Write (grades 6-12)

Come to the West Elkton library on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. for this fun writing program! Have you ever been interested in writing your own stories? This program will help give you some pointers and practice in creative writing!

Adults

Eaton Library Creative Writers Group

Do you like to write? Join your fellow writers at the Eaton Library once a month for our Creative Writers Group. You don’t have to share, but you are certainly welcome to. We’ll provide writing activities and prompts for those who need a little extra inspiration. The next meeting of the Eaton Library Creative Writers Group is Thursday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Introductory Computer Programming

The Eaton Library is hosting a series of classes each Wednesday in Aug. Each session is 60-90 minutes, and you’ll learn the basics of programming using the Python language. Later sessions will touch on advanced topics like game development, mobile app development, and creating a website. No prior programming experience is necessary. The classes are open to anyone 13 and older. It’s preferred that you bring your own laptop, but there will be some extra laptops available for use during each session.

Catch the class on Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 starting at 6 p.m.

Sea Glass Planters

We’ll be adding some summer beach flair to a planter using sea glass and clay. All supplies are provided for this adult craft on Thursday, Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Eaton Library.

Camden Library book sale

The Camden Library is having a book sale Aug. 7-12, during regular library hours. Get there early for the best selection of fiction, nonfiction, kids, young adult, and adult books.

West Elkton Book Club

Book lovers: come to the West Elkton Library on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. for the first book club meeting. Bring your favorite book for a talk, and then we’ll decide on the book to discuss for next month!

Intermediate Computer Skills

Once you get the basics down, make sure to learn more about computers at the Eaton Library. This is a two-part series. Some previous computer experience is strongly preferred for this class.

On Aug. 10 at 6 p.m., we’ll look at your options under the Start Menu and Control Panel, opening programs, and how to navigate files and folders.

On Aug. 17 at 6 p.m., we’ll talk about creating, locating, and moving documents, the Recycle Bin, storage devices, and uploading and downloading.
