New library phone number

The West Alexandria Library has a new phone and fax number. The new phone number is 937-533-4095, and the new fax number is 937-533-4119. The current phone number will work through Oct. 2.

Eaton Library Story Time Registration

Registration for fall story times at the Eaton Library is now open. Story times will run from Oct. 4 through Nov. 9. There are several sessions available for different age groups from 6 months to 12 years old. Story times will be held weekly. Call 937-456-4331 with any questions or to register.

Baymax First-Aid Kit

At the tween craft (ages 8-12) in September, we’re making Big Hero 6 themed Baymax First-Aid Kits! Registration is required to ensure enough supplies. Call ahead to your library branch to register. Catch the program at the following dates and locations:

Video Game Nights for the family

Join us for video games at the library! We’ll be playing Nintendo Wii games at the Eldorado Library on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. Check out the West Manchester Library’s newest Xbox One and Playstation 4 on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.

Lego Club

The Eaton Library will have a monthly Lego program when school-age children can build, complete challenges, or just have fun. It will meet the last Monday of each month from 4-5 p.m. The next Lego Club program is Monday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m.

Children can use the library’s Lego collection. If you bring Legos from home, please bring them in a container labeled with your child’s name.

Teens

Animation Club

The teen Animation Club is back at the Eaton Library. Teens in grades 6-12 can watch ‘Pokemon: The First Movie’ at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3. We’ll also have Pokemon activities and snacks!

Zombie Survival

How much have you learned from dystopian and apocalyptic teen lit? In this fun challenge, you’ll test your skills for surviving an outbreak of zombies! Can you barricade a door? Can you lead a group? Decide with your team how to use your available resources to hide, fight, and survive. This program is for grades 6-12, and it’s Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m.

Fuse Beads

For teens in grades 6-12: use patterns or create your own design with perler beads. We’ll build our designs, then heat the beads to join them together permanently. This program will travel around to library branches. All supplies provided by the library. Call ahead to register for the program to ensure your library has enough supplies.

Ohio Author Month in September

The Eaton Library is celebrating area authors through September with books by Ohio authors on display and four author visits scheduled. Every Wednesday, catch a different local author for a talk at the Eaton Library. Ohio Author Month is funded in part by a grant through the State Library of Ohio with funds from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. Here’s the remaining schedule:

Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.: Herbert Martin, professor of English and poet-in-residence at the University of Dayton for over three decades.

Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.: C.V. Hunt, author of nine books. There will be a drawing for one of Hunt’s books at the event.

Learn Microsoft Word

The Eaton Library has two classes in September to help you learn Microsoft’s powerful word processing software.

On Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m., we’ll have ‘What You Can Do with Microsoft Word,’ a beginning class to learn the ins and outs of MS Word. Learn about changing fonts, formatting, adding graphics and pictures, and how to create simple documents. Some previous computer experience is preferred.

Once you have the basics down, come back on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. for ‘Intermediate Microsoft Word.’ We’ll dig deeper into the many options available in MS Word. Learn to add tables to documents, insert comments, endnotes and footnotes, and use the thesaurus function. Previous MS Word experience preferred for this class.

Creative Writing Group

Do you like to write? Want some feedback on your writing? The next meeting of the Eaton Library Creative Writers’ Group is Thursday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. If you have a written piece you would like to share, please bring it to the meeting. You will not be expected to share but you are certainly welcome to do so! Writing activities and prompts will be provided for those who need a little extra inspiration.
