Library holiday closings

All Preble County District Library locations will be closed on the following days: Nov. 23 and 24; Dec. 25; and Jan. 1.

Kids and families

Tween-tivities: Agamographs (ages 8-12)

Agamographs are pieces of art that contain different pictures, depending on the angle at which they’re viewed. Make your own three-piece artwork at the library! Registration is required for this program on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 4:45 p.m. at the Camden Branch.

Fall crafts for families

Every Monday in November, the West Alexandria Library is having a different fall- or Thanksgiving-themed craft. Pop in during open hours from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The West Elkton Library is having a family craft and game night on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. We’ll have video games, board games, and seasonal crafts with all supplies provided.

The New Paris Library has crafts and story time on Mondays in November. Bring the kids on Nov. 6, 20, and 27 for a fun craft and story. Program starts at 5 p.m. each day.

Minions Party

Are you a fan of the Minions? The West Alexandria Library is having a Minions Party for the whole family on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. There will be lots of Minions crafts, games, and activities, and a photo op. Bring your camera for a photo of your “One in a Minion.”

After School Fun

Join us at the Camden Library for a fun monthly craft throughout the school year. The next After School Fun craft is Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m.

Lego Club

The Eaton Library will have a monthly Lego program when school-age children can build, complete challenges, or just have fun. It will meet the last Monday of each month from 4-5 p.m. The next Lego Club program is Monday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m.

Children can use the library’s Lego collection. If you bring Legos from home, please bring them in a container labeled with your child’s name.

Eaton Library story time registration

You can register for winter story time sessions starting Dec. 1 at the Eaton Library. Story times will run weekly from Jan. 3-Feb. 8, 2018. There are three age groups: Mother Goose for ages 6 months to three years; Library Mice for three-year-olds to kindergarten age; and After School Crew is for ages 6-12 years. Stop in or call the library for days and times for the weekly story times and to get signed up.

Night Out with Dad

This event is for children and their dad or male caregiver to enjoy a fun night at the library! Hear a classic children’s story, make a personalized craft, enjoy a snack and receive a gift at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. Registration is required, as seating is limited. Register at the library or call (937) 456-4331.

Teens

BB-8 ornaments

Are you a Star Wars fan? Get ready for the release of The Last Jedi next month by making your own BB-8 ornament! This craft will be at the Camden Library on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 5:45 p.m.

Weekly Teen programs at the Eaton Library

Every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., teens in grades 6-12 can come to the Eaton Library for a different program:

Nov. 21: Games (board games, Telestrations, and Pit)

Nov. 28: Hamilton Party with trivia about the Broadway show, as well as other activities and a special Hamilton t-shirt decoration craft (please bring a plain shirt in your size to decorate for the craft). Registration is required for the Hamilton Party, so call ahead at (937) 456-4331 or sign up at the library.

Teen book club: The Art of Secrets

The first meeting of the Eaton Library’s Teen Book Club is Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. All teens in grades 6-12 are welcome, but you must sign up ahead of the book club. There are only 10 spots, but each participant gets a free copy of the book to keep!

The first book is ‘The Art of Secrets’ by James Klise. We’ll have a different book every month. Young adult titles may contain mature themes and language, so parental discretion is advised.

Craft for adults

Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m.: Make wood slice holiday ornament at the New Paris Library.

Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m.: Make holiday ornaments at the West Alexandria Library.

Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m.: Free crafting at the Eaton Library. We’ll empty our craft cabinet and provide some inspiration.

Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m.: Make snowman crafts at the New Paris Library.

Thursday, Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m.: Make a pallet mason jar vase at the Camden Library. Reservations required by Nov. 30.

Creative Writing Group

Do you like to write? Want some feedback on your writing? The next meeting of the Eaton Library Creative Writers’ Group is Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. If you have a written piece you would like to share, please bring it to the meeting. You will not be expected to share but you are certainly welcome to do so! Writing activities and prompts will be provided for those who need a little extra inspiration.

Genealogy Scan Day

Bring your photos to the Preble County Room on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to be digitized and added to the local history archives. We’ll also save your digitized photos and documents to your flash drive and take home your physical and digital copies. Preble County Room is located at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.
