Spooky Magic Show

Magician Gordon Russ is heading to the Camden Library on Tuesday, Oct. 13 for a 5:30 p.m. show. Join Gordon for his Spooky Monster Magic Show, a one-of-a-kind magic show combining fast-paced fun with lots of audience participation. This is the perfect show to get you ready for the Halloween holiday.

Night Owl Prowl genealogy lock-in

Bring a snack to share as the Preble County Room hosts another Night Owl Prowl. From 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, make use of the thousands of research resources available at Preble County District Library’s genealogy department. Staff will be on hand for free research assistance.

West Alexandria Oktoberfest book sale

Be sure to stop by the Friends of the West Alexandria Library’s book sale booth during the Kiwanis Oktoberfest on October 10 and 11. All funds raised go to your West Alexandria Branch Library.

Tween Craft: Paper Plane Launcher

Throughout October, tweens (ages 8-12) can make paper airplanes and see which designs fly farthest with a rubber band launcher!

Homeschool Hour – Trees

If you’re a homeschool student, don’t miss out on the library’s monthly Homeschool Hour. We’ll learn about trees on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. The class is at the Library Administration Office meeting room at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.

Jill’s Giant Adventure by Minnetrista Theatre

The Minnetrista Theatre has one more show scheduled in October. Join us for an imaginative retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk. Kids will journey with Jill as she faces a bully (the giant) and empowers Jack with the tools to handle bullies by himself. Children will discover with Jill how being a good friend is heroic and how they can be heroes for their friends. The final show is Monday, Oct. 12 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Paris (301 E. Main St.)

Pumpkin design coloring contest

Get ready for Halloween at the West Elkton Library with our pumpkin design contest. On Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m., you’ll be able to design and color your own pumpkin. We’ll judge the winner, and the designer will win a prize.

Teen Creative Writing Group

Local teens in grades 6-12 can spur their creative juices at the Teen “Write On!” writing club. We’ll have creative writing prompts, snacks, and you can talk with other teens about writing. You can share aloud, but you don’t have to!

Join us on Tuesday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch Library (301 N. Barron St.).

Teens: Halloween Cosplay Accessories

Teens in grades 6-12 can make some spooky and creepy Halloween cosplay accessories at four branches during October. We’ll have plenty of snacks and you’ll make a candy test tube to take home. The program will be at the following branch libraries:

West Manchester on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m.

New Paris on Monday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.

Eaton on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m.

Novel Discussion Book Club

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library for our monthly book discussion. This month, we’ll meet Thursday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. The “Novel Discussion” book club meets the third Thursday of every month.

Build a resume at the library

Learn how to create a resume and search for jobs using the library’s newest databases, Career Cruising and Career Transitions. Both offer many tools for building resumes, interview tips, job searching, and more. Basic Microsoft Excel class

Microsoft’s popular spreadsheet software, Excel, is used on computers around the world for tracking finances, creating invoices, making charts for presentations, and much more. Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel 2013 in a free class at the New Paris Branch Library on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m. Spots are limited. Call (937) 456-5562 to register.

Ohio Digital Library class

Do you have a tablet and want to learn how to borrow eBooks and audiobooks from the library without leaving home? Join us at the Eaton Branch to learn how to borrow your favorite books straight to your tablet on Monday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. Call (937) 456-5562 to register for the class.

Digital magazine class

Did you know you can get digital versions of popular magazines with your library card. There’s no due date, and when you check them out, the issue is yours to keep. The service is called Zinio, and you can learn how to use it to read magazines on your computer, tablet, or phone in a free class at the Eaton Branch Library. The class will be Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. Call (937) 456-5562 to register.
