Winter story time registration starting soon

PREBLE COUNTY — Give your kids a jump start on reading with early literacy story times at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library. Registration for winter preschool story times and after school crafts begins Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Story times incorporate speaking, singing, reading, writing, and playing to prepare children for a future of reading, as well as cultivate communication and social skills necessary for later success in school. Children learn to follow directions, improve motor skills learning to glue and use scissors, and improve concentration as they listen to stories.

Studies have linked early exposure to reading to later success as children progress through school. In recent years, nonprofit organizations like “Read Aloud 15 Minutes” and “Zero to Three” have emerged, stressing the importance of early literacy programs, like the story times at the Eaton Branch Library.

Eaton Library’s story times fill up quickly, so make sure to register as soon as possible when registration opens on Dec. 1. For any questions, contact Sarah Tozier or Malynda Davis at the Eaton Library at 937-456-4331.

Storytime sessions are six weeks each, and range from Mother Goose (6 months to 3 years) to Library Mice (3 years to kindergarten) to After School Crafts (6-12 years old). The fall sessions run from Jan. 6 through Feb. 11.

All story time sessions will be held at the Eaton Library at 301 N. Barron St. As with all library programs, the children’s story times are free of charge. For information on other library programs or services, visit www.preblelibrary.org.
