Smoked Chicken and Pork Chop Dinner Benefit

The West Alexandria Celebration Committee is selling smoked chicken and pork chop dinners, Sunday, March 13 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. These dinners help to fund the many projects of the Celebration Committee, including Fourth of July Fireworks and Santa Villa toys. Hog Wild Smokehouse Ribs is preparing the dinners which consist of half a chicken for $7 or 3/4 lb. pork chop for $8 with either baked beans or green beans, a dinner roll and applesauce. Pick up is next to Subway and we will bring it to your car! Mail orders to: Celebration Committee c/o Michelle Laughlin, 41 W. Second Street or drop off orders at The Pin Up Shoppe, 52 W. AKS 75-Year Anniversary Auction and Dinner

The AKS 75-year Anniversary Auction will be open to the public this year in the hopes of raising more funds and increasing contributions to our community for this landmark year. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the American Legion and there will be soda, pretzels, cookies and AKS special nuts for sale during the auction. Come help us celebrate and support charitable needs within the West Alexandria community.

AKS members will begin their 75-year Anniversary celebration with a dinner on Monday, March 21, at James E. Ryan, Post 322 American Legion, 1477 Ohio 503 South. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 5:45 p.m. Coffee and dessert will be served during the awards ceremony. Dinner is buffet style by Sharon Beare and will includebaked steak, chicken, fettuccine alfredo, potato, vegetable, salad and dessert. Cost is $20 and a cash bar will be available. RSVP no later than Monday, March 7 to Wendy Chesney 937-336-2027 or Bevin Hager 937-207-8151. Recognition of members, a history reading and auction will follow the dinner.

Sisters, please dress in the style that was popular during your pledge year. Prizes will be given in several categories. The Auction will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and is open to the public in hopes of sharing our mission further. Please feel free to bring an auction item or two. We have included AKS auction item forms with our invitations so that our auctioneer presents your item correctly.

WAFD/EMS

Every Thursday evening doors open at 5p.m. and BINGO calling starts at 6 p.m. at 25 E. Dayton Street. Come early, get a good seat and start your luck with some pull-offs! All proceeds benefit the West Alexandria Firefighters Association and Department.

American Legion

Ruebens will be served Sunday, March 20, at 1 p.m. until gone. A menu of rueben, chips and pickle, green pickled eggs and desserts will be available.

A St. Patrick’s Day Dance featuring the Worley Boys will be held Friday, March 18, from 8-11 p.m.. There will be a $5 cover and a 50/50 raffle at James E. Ryan Post 322, 1477 Ohio 503 South.

An Easter egg hunt, for families of the American Legion, will be held Saturday, March 26, starting at 11 a.m.

Foodbank

The Foodbank served 60 families in January. This includes 17 seniors, 84 children and totals 209 individuals. Items needed are ramen noodles, pancake mix, syrup, shampoo and toothpaste. The Foodbank is open from 10a.m. to 12p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and is located at St. John Church, 20 E. South Street. Contact the Foodbank at 839-1615 for additional information. Non-perishable donations can also be dropped off at Salem and St. John Lutheran Churches the first Sunday of each month.

Salem Lutheran Church

Sunday, March 13, there will be a special congregational meeting immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Jr. Lutherans will be putting Easter Baskets together for the WA Foodbank on Wednesday, March 9. Donations of individually wrapped candy, toys and games would help to fill at least 40-50 baskets.

Lenten meals take place in the Fellowship Hall from 5-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday, followed by Lenten services at 7 p.m. through March 16.

The LYO will have a hot chocolate and movie night Saturday, March 19, from 7-10 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study will meet March 19 at 7:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

SOS, Social Outings of Salem, will attend the Dabble Studio in Germantown on March 18 at 6:30 p.m. to create a beach scene.

A Maundy Thursday service with communion will begin at 7 p.m., March 24.

A Good Friday service will begin at 7 p.m. on March 25.

Easter Sunday, March 27, the church will open at 7 a.m. for personal meditation and prayer. Easter breakfast will begin at 8:45 a.m., sponsored by the LYO. An Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 9 a.m. upstairs in the LCO classrooms. Sunday School begins at 9:30 and Easter Worship begins at 10:30 a.m.

New Eyes For the Needy – SWELCA is collecting used eye glasses to be donated to the local Lions Club. A donation box is located in the church Library.

Coups for Troops needs your unwanted or recently expired coupons which can be used in Military Commissaries overseas up to two months past the expiration date. Place in the basket located in the church Library.

St. John Lutheran Church, Ingomar

St. John and Trinity Lutheran Youth Groups, in collaboration with Preble County Board of DD, will hold a St. Patrick’s Day “Green with Envy” Dance on Saturday, March 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 511 N. Commerce St. in Lewisburg. RSVP by calling 839-5321 by March 14 so we can provide refreshments accordingly.

Every Wednesday, Lenten meals are served at 6:15p.m. and Lenten services begin at 7 p.m. through March 16.

A Maundy Thursday Service will be held March 24 at 7 p.m. and a Good Friday service will be held March 25 at 7 p.m.

The Spring Gathering for all women will be held Saturday, April 2 from 1-4 p.m. at St. John Lutheran, 2319 Enterprise Rd.

An Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 19 from 1-2:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran with light refreshments. This is free and open to the public.

Easter Sunrise Service begins at 7 a.m. on March 27 with breakfast immediately following. Easter Sunday Worship will begin at 10a.m.

Starting April 3, Sunday Worship will begin at 9a.m. with Sunday School immediately following.

Church of the Brethren

Our next Free Community Meal is Wednesday, April 6 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, 22 East Oak St. West Alexandria.

Youth in grades 5-8 are invited to join us every other Sunday for our Youth Ministry Nights from 6-7:15p.m.

St. John Church

UCC Living Lenten services will be held at 7 p.m. each Sunday evening through March 13.

A Maundy Thursday Soup Supper, March 25, begins at 6 p.m. with Communion at 6:30 p.m..

Easter Sunrise Service, begins at 8 a.m. on March 28, with Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Sunday School at 9 a.m., Egg Hunt at 9:30 a.m. and Easter Worship at 10 a.m.
